Course Aim
On completion of the course, the student should, with a scientific, reflective and critical approach, have acquired advanced knowledge in pharmacology, diabetes, ostomy, and incontinence care as well as pain and pain treatment. On completion of the course, the student should:
  • Have acquired advanced knowledge to independently be able to assess the need and prescribe drugs based on the indication according to current regulations.
  • Have acquired advanced knowledge of the properties, usage, prescription and side effects of drugs.
  • Be able to prescribe free of cost medical supplies based on current guidelines in accordance with the relevant statutes.
This knowledge is necessary to ensure safe and secure drug prescription in the future profession as district nurse and to be able to apply to The National Board of Health and Welfare for the prescription right for drugs and other devices.

To reach the course objectives, the student should, independently and through group cooperation, and with support from the literature, study according to the instructions in the study guide. As support for literature studies, the student is offered lecture material via Canvas. In addition, students are offered general lectures via distance-bridging technology. Study material is deepened through seminars, lectures and discussions with specialists in different fields. Seminars are compulsory attendance. Few lectures can be in English.

For the pass grade, it is required that the student achieve the course objectives through the following examination parts:
  • Written individual examination
  • Seminar where the student demonstrates acquired factual knowledge, can orally present the assignment, actively participates in the discussions, demonstrates the ability to understand and critically reflect on presented contents. Written reports ma be required.
  • Written assignments
Grading criteria for pass and pass with distinction are stated in the study guide.

To complete the course the student must participate in all compulsory parts and take the examination. Absence from compulsory parts sand other exemptions should be informed and discussed with the course coordinator. Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas. Passing this course constitutes specific entry requirements for placement courses.
