Course Aim
On completion of the course, the student should, from current laws and regulations, with a scientific and ethical attitude, based on the contents of the course, be able to:
  • explain and describe general determinants for the distribution of health and public health
  • reflect on and analyse scientific relationships within the public health field with a focus on epidemiological issues
  • identify and evaluate ethical positions within primary health care
  • analyse and apply his/her profession-specific knowledge from a public health perspective
  • plan primary health care and argue for actions/interventions with clear theoretical connections
  • describe and theoretically apply motivational interviewing techniques, MI

The student should actively seek knowledge and solve problems through an examining and critically reflective working method. This implies that the student takes individual responsibility by participating actively to achieve the objectives of the course. Teaching is given as lectures, self-study, group assignments and seminars. Attendance is compulsory at the introduction, presentations, seminars and examinations. The lectures are given on campus and via distance-bridging technology.

If there is a decision on special educational support, in accordance with the Guideline Student's rights and obligations at Luleå University of Technology, an adapted or alternative form of examination can be provided.
For the pass grade, it is required that the student achieve the course objectives through the following examination sections:
  • digital individual examination
  • oral and written presentation of written assignment and advanced assignment
  • seminar
Grading criteria for pass and pass with distinction are stated in the study guide.

This course is given for second-cycle studies. Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas.
Passing this course constitutes specific entry requirements for placement courses.
