The selection is based on 20-285 credits



Course Aim

After successfully completing the course, the student is expected to be able to:

  • identify and describe mental disorders and illnesses
  • identify and prioritize the needs of care for mental disorders and illnesses
  • propose and describe medical treatment options for mental disorders and diseases
  • show the ability to analyze, reflect on and participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment in mental disorders and diseases
  • describe, apply and reflect on relevant legislation
  • identify and reflect on gender equality and cultural aspects of mental illness

Explanatory models and treatment for mental illness
Mental disorders and diseases in people of all ages
Risk assessments
Cultural aspects of mental illness
Gender equality aspects in mental illness
Measures for emergency medical conditions in psychiatric care Applicable statutes and regulations

Teaching and learning takes place by means of self-directed independent studies, lectures, labs, study assignments and seminars


Examination
If there is a decision on special educational support, in accordance with the Guideline Student's rights and obligations at Luleå University of Technology, an adapted or alternative form of examination can be provided.

The successful attainment of the objectives for the course is assessed via seminars and individual written exams.
The grading criteria for Pass or Pass with honors (G, VG) is stated in the Study Guide


Remarks

The course is offered as part of a second-cycle study program in specialist training to become a nurse in psychiatric care. Study guidance can be found in the course room in Canvas.
