In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language and O0055H Fundamental principles in nursing, 7.5 credits O0047H Nursing: Health, 7.5 credits O0003H Nursing, Nursing Interventions, 7.5 credits O0078H Nursing, Environment and Prevention, 7.5 credits

Course Aim
The student should, on completion of the course, be able to:
  • identify health in illness and identify suffering in illness with a focus on suffering related to existence itself, suffering related to care and compassion in illness from different cultural- and gender aspects
  • identify needs for and give examples of supporting interventions to people’s experience of health and dignity in illness and to people at the end of life
  • based on the research process distinguish and compare quantitative and qualitative studies of health and suffering in illness and studies of people's experiences at the end of life
  • documentation in a scientific way
  • apply current laws and regulations

Teaching and learning take place through individual studies of literature, study assignments, laboratory sessions, group discussions and seminars. Lectures are given in selected sections. Participation in laboratory sessions and seminars are compulsory.

Individual written examination, assignment, report and seminar.
Grading criteria for Pass and Pass with distinction are stated in the study guide.

The course is included in the first-cycle studies in nursing. Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas. Passing this course constitutes specific entry requirements for placement courses and the thesis.
