Entry requirements

In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language and The course assumes prior knowledge equivalent to: O0055H Fundamental Principles in Nursing, 7.5 credits O0047H Nursing: Health, 7.5 credits O0003H Nursing, Nursing Interventions, 7.5 credits O0078H Environment and Prevention in Primary Care, 7.5 credits O0005H Nursing, Health and Suffering in Illness, 7.5 credits O0068H Nursing , Nurse-client interaction, 7.5 credits O0083H Nursing in Medical and Surgical Illness including Nursing Techniques 7.5 credits O0006H Nursing, Nursing in Elderly Care, 7.5 credits O0019H Nursing in Psyciatric ill-health, 7.5 credits O0029H Nursing, Nursing in Medical/Surgical Disease, 7.5 credits or equivalent knowledge.

Selection

The selection is based on 1-165 credits.



Course Aim
The student should, on completion of the course, be able to:
  • describe what it means to live with illness from the perspective of both patients and their close relatives
  • describe nursing science and relate to a theoretical scientific perspective with a focus on a descriptive and interpretive approach
  • explain and defend the importance of a scientific approach
  • explain and apply the research process with a qualitative approach
  • evaluate, compare and suggest relevant methods for data collection and analysis in relation to diverse research issues
  • explain and apply qualitative content analysis as a method for analysing data
  • categorise and compile data in order to identify needs of patients and close relatives
  • by using a scientifically based reasoning, consider and propose how the identified daily needs of patients and close relatives can be supported
  • document in a scientific way and consider quality criteria in order to ensure credibility of research with a qualitative approach
  • critically review and evaluate research results

Realization
Teaching and learning take place through individual studies, study assignments and seminars. Lectures are given in selected course sections. Participation in some seminars is compulsory and which are stated in the study plan.

  • Written individual examination, Assignment I and II, Literature seminar
Grading criteria for Pass and Pass with distinction are stated in the study guide.

Remarks
The course is given for first-cycle studies within the nursing programme. Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas. The course might be given in English
