The selection is based on 20-285 credits



Course Aim
The student should, on completion of the course, be able to:
  • compare and explain the choice of nursing interventions from an evidence-based working method and ethical principles
  • apply advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills in nursing and medically indicated measures in intensive care for individuals of different ages
  • demonstrate advanced ability to initiate, carry out, teach and evaluate health promotion and preventive work
  • describe the function of and apply medical technology in intensive care
  • describe and apply qualitative research methods
  • give proposals for and explain methods to plan, follow up and develop activities in intensive care
  • demonstrate self-knowledge and empathetic ability
  • apply current laws and regulations
  • document care and nursing
  • document scientifically
  • identify the need for additional knowledge for continuous skill development

•    Being acutely, seriously ill and the experience of being a relative
•    Application of interview and observation technique
•    Ethics
•    Nursing of acute, seriously ill individuals
•    Nursing of children, pregnant women and older individuals in intensive care
•    Nursing in transport of critically ill patients
•    Medically indicated measures and medical technology
•    Evidence-based nursing
•    Documentation of care and nursing
•    Organisation in intensive care
•    Current laws and regulations
•    Scientific documentation and critical review

     

Realization
Teaching and learning take place through individual studies, lectures, study assignments, seminars and placement under supervision. Participation in seminars and placement is compulsory.

Examination
Written examination and/or seminar.
 Assessment of professional competence.
 
Grading criteria for pass and pass with distinction are stated in the study guide

Only one transfer is given for the course with respect to the placement. If there are special circumstances, a further transfer can be granted. Special circumstances are those stated in regulations from the National Agency for Higher Education HSVFS 1999:1.

Remarks
The course is given for second-cycle studies in specialist education to become an intensive care nurse and is a placement course.

This course, with clinical placement are subject to Special rules regarding clinical placement according to Head of Department decision.  

Passing this course constitutes specific entry requirements for placement courses.

Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas.
