More information about English language requirements SelectionThe selection is based on 20-285 creditsCourse Aim On completion of the course the student should be able to: • under supervision, carry out intraoperative nursing care and medically indicated measures for patients undergoing surgery of a general nature • explain and implement procedures for maintaining patient safety during surgery • describe the function of and use medical technology and medical devices within theatre nursing • apply surgical nursing leadership and function as part of a team • describe different qualitative research methods and be able to formulate research questions based on qualitative research design • document care and nursing • document scientifically • apply existing laws and statutesContents Intraoperative nursing care including instrumentation within general, urological and gynaecological surgery Preventing surgical infections Procurement of biological specimens and samples for accurate diagnosis Documentation of intraoperative nursing care Medical technology and medical devices within surgical care Organisation and leadership Qualitative research methods for data collection: the application of interview and observation methodology Research ethics Methods for analysing the need for intraoperative nursing care Ethics Evidence-based nursing Current laws and statutes Scientific documentation and critical reviewRealization Teaching and learning take place through individual studies, lectures, seminars and placement under supervision. Participation in seminars and placement is compulsory.Examination Written exam and seminar. Assessment of professional competence. Passing the course requires that all parts of the course are completed and passed. Grading criteria for pass and pass with distinction are stated in the study guide. Only one transfer is given for a course with regard to placement. If special reasons are found to exist, an additional transfer may be granted. Special reasons refers to those specified in instructions from the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education, HSVFS 1999:1.Remarks This course is given for second-cycle studies within specialist training to become an operating room nurse, and it involves placement. This course, with clinical placement are subject to Special rules regarding clinical placement according to Head of Department decision. Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas.
