Course Aim
The student should, on completion of the course,
  • systematically search scientific literature in electronic databases
  • critically review and evaluate scientific studies
  • formulate a research question in nursing
  • apply research ethics principles and write a research ethics application
  • plan, performed and document a scientific work in nursing within the area of responsibility of the district nurse
  • critically review and argue for proposals for changes and assess other students' thesis and defend his/her own thesis in Nursing

In the course, the student should plan, carry out and document an empirical scientific work. Search and critical review of scientific literature in relevant databases for nursing is included, as well as collection, analysis and compilation of empirical data. Practising being an opponent and respondent is also included in the course as well as applying knowledge of relevant research design and research ethics.

The course is carried out as an individual assignment with compulsory supervision. The supervisor is appointed by the department. Regular seminars that follow the work process are included in the course, attendance is compulsory at the seminars.

The thesis is examined in the form of a written report that is presented at a seminar with opponent and defence. Grading criteria for pass and pass with distinction are stated in the study guide.

The course is given for second-cycle studies within specialist training to become a district nurse. Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas.
