The selection is based on 20-285 credits



Course Aim
After successfully completing the course, the student is expected to be able to:
  • translate key concepts in nursing care into psychiatric care
  • propose, motivate, plan and evaluate nursing interventions that meet the individual needs of individuals with mental illness
  • explain and motivate factors that promote recovery in individuals with mental illness
  • analyze and reflect on the needs of individuals with mental illness in relation to society’s resources
  • identifying and meeting the needs of support from relatives of individuals with mental illness
  • apply ethical concepts, principles and attitudes in relation to coercion in psychiatric care
  • apply knowledge-based nursing on the basis of a clinical question with relevance for nursing in psychiatric care
  • document scientifically

Realization
Teaching and learning take place by means of self-directed independent studies, lectures, laboratory exercises, field studies, study assignments and seminars.

Examination
The successful attainment of the objectives for the course is assessed via seminars and individual written exams.
The grading criteria for Pass or Pass with honors (G, VG) is stated in the Study Guide.

Remarks
The course is offered as part of a second-cycle study program in specialist training to become a nurse in psychiatric care.
