Course Aim
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
  • plan, carry out and document a scientific work in the subject nursing within geriatric care
  • formulate a scientific issue in nursing
  • systematically search scientific literature in electronic databases
  • critically review and evaluate scientific studies
  • apply research ethics principles and write a research ethics application
  • critically review, argue for proposals for changes and assess other students' degree projects and defend his/her own degree project

In the course, the student should plan, carry out and document an empirical scientific work. Search and critical review of scientific literature in databases relevant for nursing is included, as well as collection, analysis and compilation of empirical data. Practising being an opponent and respondent is also included in the course as well as applying knowledge of relevant research design and research ethics.

The course is carried out by distance and at half-speed as an individual assignment with compulsory supervision. The supervisor is appointed by the department. Regular seminars that follow the work process are included in the course, attendance is compulsory at the seminars.

The degree project is examined in the form of a written report that is presented at a seminar with opposition and defence.

The course is given for second-cycle studies within specialist education with a specialisation in geriatric care. Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas.
