Course Aim

The aim of this course is to provide each student with the necessary opportunity to understand and experience the conceptualization process as related to the architectural profession.

   This is achieved by dividing the process into its parts:

- the task, need (client),

- storyboard development,

- key concept development,

- graphical representation of solution,

- competition - bringing forth the 3 best solutions,

- verbal presentation for the client

  - each part of the process is coupled with experts in the field that meet with each group individually once a week during the course of the term. This is intended to efficiently guide the students with continual feedback through the various stages strengthening the concept and connecting the concept to the architectural design.

- by the end of the process each group will have met 3 architects to receive a broad spectrum of architectural conceptualization feedback and experience.


Theoretical and practical application for

- Critically asses the built environment.

- Building a concept, from storyboard to presentation.

- The relationship of form and space and its consequence on the perceived value.

-  Visualization and presentation of design solution.



In a course where skills will be trained it is important to have active exercises with many opportunities for feedback with advisors from the field. Three assignments are scheduled to be handed in during the weekly individual group feedback sessions. These are used as a gauge for testing the students current understanding of the conceptual phase and be able to instruct the student continually during the process. The tempo of the process is fast, to best represent the normal working pace in the architectural field. At the end of the course the well developed concept and visualisation are presented for the advisors and direct feeback is given. The presentations are judged and the top three designs are then to be presented for the ’client’.



A final grade is made determined by 3 assignments worth a total of 3 pts and a final verbal presentation with graphical printed material worth a total of 4,5 points.

If any passing grade in any of the assignments or final presentation are missing, no final grade will be issued until they are completed with a passing grade.
