Selection

The selection is based on final school grades or Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test.



Course Aim

On completion of the course, the student shall:

• be able to apply the national Swedish coordinate and altitude system
• have knowledge of the functions and fields of application of the measuring instruments used in surveying and placement of roads, railways and buildings
• be able to apply measuring methods and placement methods
• comprehend the theory of errors and methods of error calculation
• be able to use computer programmes for managing surveying data
• have knowledge of legislation concerning surveying with special regard to mineral extraction.


Contents
The subjects that are treated in this course are: the national Swedish coordinate and altitude system, surveying instruments, surveying methods and placement methods, satellite geodesy, and the theory of errors. The teaching combines theory with field exercises and computer applications. In addition the Swedish mining law and specifically its relation to mining surveying is covered in the course.

Realization
Teaching occurs through lectures, calculation assignments and field work.

Examination
A written examination (5 credits) and field work and approved assessment reports (2.5 credits).
