Entry requirements

In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language + Swedish upper secondary school courses Mathematics 1a/1b/1c, Social Studies 1b/1a1+1a2 (specifik entry A5). Or: Swedish upper secondary school courses Mathematics Mathematics A, Social Studies A (specifik entry 5)

Selection

The selection is based on final school grades or Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test.



Course Aim
The goal is that the student should after the course show that they both orally and in writing, individually and in groups, to describe and analyze;

  • Relevant theories of organization and work,
  • Work conditions in society and men's and women's relationship to work
  • Organizational theory from a gender and ethnic perspectives

Contents
Students will work in groups, do film analysis and writing essays, as a way to train to describe and analyze different organizational theories in an empirical context. They will also do participant observation to understand the relationship between different forms of organizational cultures. The course “organizational and work sociology” are going to be treated from a historical perspective and its development until today. Different organizational forms of bureaucracy to project organizations will be highlighted and its importance for various activities in the society. Working conditions in modern society and organizations will also be described and discussed from a number of angles. The course provides a conceptual understanding of how organizations work and why there are organizations. It also describes women's and men's relationship to the work and organization of one ethnicity and gender.

Realization
Lessons, seminars and group exercises. Attendance is compulsory unless the schema state otherwise.

Examination
Oral presentation and written essay assingment.

Students must register for the courses themselves, or contact ETS educational administration eduets@ltu.se, not later than three days after the quarter commences. Failure to do so can result in the place being lost. This rule also applies to students with a guaranteed place.
