Course Aim
The student is to write and defend a thesis requiring the ability to independently choose and justify a relevant problem, purpose, scope, theory, method and material, as well as to analyse and draw conclusions based on these choices, composing a major thesis. Compared to the C level thesis, the D level work is anticipated to be more sophisticated in terms of problematization and application of theoretical frameworks. Ideas that are put forward should be presented in a thorough manner.

Contents
Every student writes and defends a thesis. Choice of topic, purpose, theory, method and material is presented in a written memorandum that is discussed at a seminar. Every student acts as discussant on another student’s memorandum and thesis.

Realization
Teaching consists of tutoring and seminars training the student’s ability to independently formulate an interesting problem, as well as the ability to justify choice of scope, theory, method, material, etc. Ability to explore and analyse a scientific problem is of utmost importance, as well as presenting the results, primarily in writing, but also orally. Supervision is provided within a period of one semester after first course registration.

Examination
To pass the course the student shall participate in compulsery meetings and seminars as well as register the thesis according to LTUs rules.

Remarks
Students must register for the courses themselves or contact ETS educational administration, eduets@ltu.se not later than three days after the quarter commences. Failure to do so can result in the place being lost. This rule also applies to students with a guaranteed place.
