Entry requirements

In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language and Basic mathematics and physics. Good knowledge in English, equivalent to English 6.

The selection is based on 1-165 credits.

Course Aim
After completed course the student should be able to:
  • Use material selection methodology to choose the right material for different application with regard to functionality and properties as well as appropriate manufacturing method.
  • Draw conclusions from diagrams and relate these to the microstructure and behavior of the material.
  • Recognize different testing methods and predict the information from them.
  • Correlate how properties depend on production techniques.
  • Suggest how functional errors can be minimized (corrosion, creep, defects…).

Material selection methodology Basic knowledge about different materials structure and properties, related to manufacturing and performance. Materials covered in this course are; metallic, polymeric and ceramic materials, as well as different types of composite materials.

The teaching consists of lectures and lessons with problem solving. The course also consists of a laborative part and one part with seminars on material selection methodology. The students will solve a material selection task and present it orally at seminars and also in the form of a written report.

Written examination and compulsory laborations/seminars and written report.

The course cannot be included in an exam together with T0004T. Single lectures and laborative tutorials in English can occur.
