Selection

The selection is based on final school grades or Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test.



Course Aim
After course completion, the student shall be able to:

  • describe and reason on fundamental concepts in social science methodology and research
  • present similarities and differences between a basic investigation and scientific based research
  • distinguish between qualitative and quantitative research design and empirical data collection

plan and implement a small social science project where focus is on begin able to:

a) choose and justify the selection of methods for a given investigation problems
b) gather information in a systematic and structured manner given the research investigation problem at hand
c) analyse and evaluate one’s own social science project and those of other course participants
d) present the results of his or her project in writing in a clear, scientific and professional manner

Contents
The course is a basic course in scientific method for independent work in social sciences. It is addressed to anyone who wants to learn more about basic scientific methods related to social science research. The course addresses the various stages of the research process and the choices required by the implementation of these kinds of studies.

Realization
The course consists of lectures and seminars.

Examination
To pass the course, all written assignments must have been done with passing results and the feedback on others’ work included in the written assignments must have been done with passing results.
