Second place in architectural competition

Published: 20 March 2019

Anton Magnusson is doing his degree project in architecture at White Architects and has together with his colleague Hugo Hardell participated in the competition "Steel Race Reuse" which resulted in a prestigious second place. The competition task was to produce a proposal for an entrance portal to the architectural gallery 2019 in steel and with a clear connection to recycling.

"Steel Race Reuse" is a 72-hour competition by the Swedish Architects and the Steel Building Institute for architects and architectural students.

"With our contribution "Samklang" we want to convey how steel can be strong, firm, heavy and silent, but also light, soft, neat and sounding. The guiding principles for the design come from the play with classic and modern architecture for which the concert hall stands model", says Anton Magnusson.

The winning contribution will be built and will be in place in front of the Concert Hall in Stockholm during The Architecture Gala 2019.

"To enable reuse, all materials are standard products. Besides the fact that these products can be recycled, there is also an aesthetic possibility. Instead of hiding, painting or dressing the steel, this is shining with its raw materiality", says Anton Magnusson.

The three best proposals were presented and awarded during the Architectural Gala and will also be described in the next issue of the journal Stålbyggnad.
