Developed app from game engine for architecture

Distributed reinforced reality to support design development between the architect and the client is the title of the degree project Raafat Hussamadin presented. He has developed and programmed an application that will facilitate communication between different stakeholders in construction projects. The app is based on The Unity game engine and is integrated with BIM - Building Information Modeling - and gives users an interactive 3D view over built-in real-time and remote access.

"You can share a view with users in other locations while looking at the building and surrounding terrain, changing the building's structure, zooming in on details or walking around the rooms inside the house while discussing improvements," says Raafat Hussamadin, who studied The Master Programme in Architectural Engineering at Luleå University of Technology.

It was an impressive demonstration when Raafat films the floor and allows the program to map angles and furniture and then places a 3D-building on the floor shown on the mobile display. When we move around the room, the house is fixed in a correct geographical perspective.

"Because it's a real-time live view, it's hard to describe the app, you almost have to see a demonstration to understand the benefits of this technology," says Raafat Hussamadin, who obviously hopes to further develop his program for a commercial market.
