Next generation of students visited the university

Published: 10 October 2018

New potentiall students visited The Open House Day at Luleå University of Technology. The range of programmes was presented in displays and with lectures by existing students and their teachers. Many of the visitors seemed very interested and positive to what was shown.

"This is a great opportunity to meet interested high school students and to showcase our range. I think many people also appreciate coming here to see the university campus, says Linnaeus Malmström, student recruiter at The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering.

The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering is the academic residence for programmes within architecture, construction, infrastructure, mining, mineral, environmental and chemical engineering. There are also programmes in, for example, fire and maintenance engineering.

"A new program we want to highlight is The Master Programme in Sustainable Process and Chemical Engineering."

"The Open house Day is the start of our work to recruit new students where the deadline is April15th for those who want to start studying with us next autumn. Today, we meet many students from the county, but in the autumn we will visit educational fairs and congresses across the country," says Linnaeus Malmström.

Some of the institution's programmes arfe very popular with a high rate of applicants, such as civil engineering and architecture. Other newer and lesser-known programmes can be easier to access for new applicants.

"A new program we want to highlight is The Master Programme in Sustainable Process and Chemical Engineering. Students become a civil engineer in the major area where chemical and bioprocessing skills are needed, for example, to develop new, more environmentally adapted materials and manufacturing processes and to make mineral and metal extraction more sustainable," says Phillip Tretten, Head Faculty Programme Director at The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering.
