"I had a job long before the studies were completed"

Published: 7 January 2019

Anders Nyström, 32 years, Luleå, Higher Education Diploma Programme in Works Management in Civil Engineering

Why did you choose to study at The Programme in Works Management in Civil Engineering?

It was a natural step when I previously worked in the industry as a carpenter and wanted to open the door for new challenges. I love the construction industry for the reason that I can participate in creating physical objects. There is nothing more satisfying than being able to turn around at the end of the day and see what I have accomplished with my colleagues.

What you want to work with after the studies?

After the studies, I will be left out on the building but will step into a role with leading function. I love to nail form and work with my hands but in the future I will, as the supervisor or site manager, work with planning, preparation, purchasing, coordination between entrepreneurs and clients, work environment issues and finances. A job was completed long before the studies were completed.

What do you do in your free time?

I have a preference for mountains and sea. That's why I hang a lot in Norway and climb, ski and run some. Physical activity in general is something I start on, I do not know why but it makes me feel better and think a little clearer.

In and around Luleå there is a fantastic range of outdoor activities if you dare to move a little outside campus. This applies to all seasons and includes everything from ice climbing to cross-country skiing. And don't forget our fantastic archipelago!

Do you have any advice for future students at LTU?

Do not hesitate for a second to choose and consider taking the step to study, it is clearly the best thing I have done for myself. Seek the education you think will make your life better. Just do it, it will be fun!
