What made you choose The Fire Protection Engineer program?

I have always been interested in the rescue service as many in my vicinity work or have worked there. Some as part-time firefighters, some as officers and some as administrators. When the forest fires ravaged the summer of 2018, I had the opportunity to help a staff that was located at the fire station in Bräcke by running errands. Then I met for the first time someone with the title fire engineer and became extremely curious. A googling later I had found my dream education!

What do you think about this programme?

I find the program challenging and fun. The first year I had a hard time seeing the connection to working life, but now that we are halfway through the second year, everything is so interesting and exciting as it is really related to future tasks. It is also very close contact with employers, which I think is cool. The opportunity to do a summer internship is also very good! I did mine at the Rescue Service Jämtland.

What is the best thing about being a student at Luleå University of Technology?

I think that is the feeling of cohesion and cooperation. We who study fire have a very good cohesion, and it is very common that we are helped between the years. The program management also works closely with us students and we have the opportunity to influence a lot. Our opinions matter! There are also many options for those who want to get involved in something during their studies. I myself am this year as chairman of our program association BRINN. It's really great fun. Then of course - the snow, the ice road and all the great outdoor opportunities!

What attracted you to Luleå?

I love snow and winter, and most of all spring and winter. Being able to skate on the ice road, take a ski trip in the archipelago and have all these nice surfaces around is important to me.

Do you have any advice for those who are considering applying for the program?

Be sure to keep up with the math at the beginning, feel free to prepare a little before the start. Feel free to get a good calendar and structure your weeks, you will thank yourself for that!
