Jubileumsfonden's Third Call for Applications
The application for Jubileumsfonden's third call is now open. This time, the focus is on research concerning “Sustainable Materials and Innovations for a Circular Bioeconomy,” which may include, but is not limited to, areas such as materials research, architecture, environment, chemistry, design, civil engineering, energy efficiency, and circularity.
This call offers two tracks: a general one based on this year’s theme, and another partially funded by the Baltic Fund, specifically focused on “forest activities north of the Aleån river (i.e., the river flowing into the sea just north of Ersnäs).” Applicants will select the appropriate track in the application form.
Jubileumsfonden at Luleå University of Technology collects funds from foundations, individuals, companies, and organizations. The idea is to provide freedom for carefully chosen, innovative, and bold research initiatives that address complex challenges and don’t align with other funding bodies' orientations and calls. The goal is to create positive societal effects and help solve current societal challenges, with a focus on seeing results in northern Sweden in the near future.
In addition to this call, applying to Jubileumsfonden often provides more opportunities and occasions to gain exposure to donors and foundations within the network. You will also receive valuable coaching to clarify your project's impact and present it in a “popular science way” to engage and create understanding among both donors and the public.

What Can Jubileumsfonden Fund?
Jubileumsfonden offers project funding. It can cover salary costs at Luleå University of Technology and other project-related expenses such as travel.
Funds cannot be used as co-financing for other ongoing/planned projects or for establishing research centers/centrumbildningar. The fund also does not cover research infrastructure such as experimental equipment, labs, and materials.
For projects awarded funds in the third call, LTU-4422-2024, Jubileumsfonden will cover 50% of Luleå University of Technology’s overhead (OH), office (local), and IT costs. This must be reflected in the budget submitted with the application. The budget should follow a full-cost calculation, using the template “Project Budget and Follow-Up, with 57% overhead from 2025.” Consult your financial advisor in good time before submitting the application to ensure the following:
- The template uses 2025 parameters (updated template available online)
- The salary increase in the calculation is 4.1%, in line with planning assumptions
Budget for the Call: Up to 10 million SEK. Max 2 million SEK per project will be financed by Jubileumsfonden.
Project Duration: Up to 2.5 years at most. Project start date: earliest August 2025.
How Does the Application Process Work?
Jubileumsfonden’s call is like a multi-step competition.
1. First, an evaluation committee assesses the applications based on the criteria of this call.
The criteria for this round are:
- Relevance to the Theme: A clear connection to the theme “Sustainable Materials and Innovations for a Circular Bioeconomy.” We seek projects that can drive forward new, sustainable solutions and innovations within this field.
- Potential for Impact in the Research Field: The project's ability to contribute scientific and practical benefits, with a particular focus on how the results can affect and integrate into a relevant value chain. We assess the project's potential to promote sustainability, innovation, and long-term societal value in its research area.
- Implementation Plan: Are the budget, plan, and approach credible and relevant to the project's objectives?
Note that no feedback will be provided to applicants on their applications.
2. The top-ranked applications will be invited to a Teams interview with the Jubilee Committee. Prior to this interview, the lead researcher will receive coaching to clarify the potential impact of the project and how to pitch it in a popular science manner.
3. Projects that advance from the interview will then pitch at the “Jubilee Fund’s Third Final” – a public event 14th May 2025 at Vetenskapens hus in Luleå, where announcements of funded projects from Jubileumsfonden will be made.

The application must be written using the application form (Word format), which you can find at the bottom of this page.
