Reserach Council, 18 June 2026

The agenda included discussions on publication requirements ahead of disputaion, the implementation of CoARA, the status of new research subjects, and promotions to professor.

1. Dissertation Cases and Publication Requirements

The Council discussed several cases where doctoral students had difficulty meeting publication requirements prior to the defense. Longer publication processes were identified as a contributing factor. It was noted that the requirements stated in the general syllabus must be fulfilled for a degree to be awarded. At the same time, there may be a need to review whether current requirements are adapted to today's publication landscape.

Next steps: Clearer follow-up of against the general syllabus and dialogue with those concerned where shortcomings have been identified.

2. CoARA – Exchange of Experiences with Linköping University

Representatives from Linköping University presented their work with CoARA (Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment) and highlighted the importance of academic ownership, management support, and a dedicated coordinator. A key objective of CoARA is to promote broader and more qualitative approaches to the assessment of research merits beyond bibliometric indicators.

Next steps: The question of LTU’s continued work with CoARA, including the need for a coordinator, will be discussed further in the Vice-Chancellor’s Strategic Council (RSR).

3. Status of New Research Subjects

Work on new research subjects within production systems and game development is ongoing. The Council noted that both initiatives are being driven through a more strategic, top-down process.

4. Promotions to Professor

The need for clearer guidance regarding promotions to professor and expectations associated with the professor role was discussed.

Next steps: The matter will be prepared further within RFR and subsequently discussed in RSR.
