Headteachers’ Pedagogical Leadership – Leading Teachers’ Learning

The aim is to strengthen headteachers’ pedagogical leadership and analytical capacity in leading teachers’ learning, in order to enhance the quality of teaching and pupils’ knowledge development.

The ULF Project Area

The project is conducted in the municipalities of Överkalix and Övertorneå in inland Norrbotten, where headteachers and teachers work in small professional contexts with few subject colleagues. This makes it particularly important for headteachers to have opportunities to network and develop their pedagogical leadership in order to lead teachers’ learning.

Purpose of the Project

The aim is to strengthen headteachers’ pedagogical leadership and analytical capacity in leading teachers’ learning, in order to enhance the quality of teaching and pupils’ knowledge development.

Implementation and Documentation

The project is carried out through recurring workshops, literature studies, collegial discussions and practical trials in schools. Documentation includes recorded conversations, meeting minutes, collected reflective materials and joint analysis in collaboration with researchers from LTU.

Dissemination of Results

The results are disseminated to headteachers, school leadership teams and local politicians in the participating municipalities, as well as through academic articles and teaching within teacher education programmes at Luleå University of Technology. Results may also be shared through conference participation.

Who are we?

The project leadership consists of Sara Cervantes (LTU), Emma Enström (Director of Education, Överkalix Municipality) and Katarina Lindberg (Director of Education, Övertorneå Municipality). This is a collaborative project involving researchers at Luleå University of Technology and the municipalities of Överkalix and Övertorneå. Together, we are developing practice-based knowledge about headteachers’ pedagogical leadership, collegial learning and instructional development in smaller municipalities.
