Building a space technology innovation ecosystem for Northern Sweden SMEs

The space technology sector is strategically important for Sweden. Particularly, northern Sweden’s space industry is rich with opportunities, and specialized small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are critical in enabling innovation by introducing new technologies in the sector. However, despite the immense opportunities, the number of specialized space sector SMEs is limited. SMEs face challenges in accessing resources, scaling their businesses, and driving innovation primarily due to their smaller size and influence. This project seeks to address these challenges by crafting strategies to create a robust innovation ecosystem to empower SMEs’ business development and scaling.

About the Research

The project focuses on identifying key challenges to innovation faced by SMEs in the space sector, such as limited access to resources, lack of capabilities, and difficulty accessing networks. By engaging with space sector ecosystem actors in Northern Sweden, the research aims to design strategies that strengthen the regional space innovation ecosystem.
