AI Chatbots for Business Innovation: Enhanced Competitiveness and Lifecycle Feedback for SMEs in Norrland
The project is investigating how AI-based chatbots can help small and medium-sized enterprises collect, organize, and learn from customer interactions throughout the entire product and service lifecycle.
About the Project
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) interact with customers on a daily basis through email, phone calls, support requests, and digital inquiries. These interactions contain valuable information about customer needs, product performance, and various business challenges. Despite this, this knowledge is rarely captured and reused in a structured way.
The project investigates how AI-based chatbots can help small and medium-sized enterprises collect, organize, and learn from customer interactions throughout the entire product and service lifecycle. The focus is not only on automated customer service, but also on how chatbot technology can help companies identify recurring problems, improve products and services, strengthen their capacity for innovation, and increase their long-term competitiveness.
Benefits for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs)
Many small and medium-sized enterprises face similar challenges:
- Customer feedback is often scattered across email, phone calls, and different employees.
- Valuable knowledge is lost when problems are resolved but not documented or reused.
- Improvements to products and services are often driven by individual incidents rather than systematic learning.
- Limited resources make it difficult to implement advanced systems for customer feedback or reliability management.
The project investigates how practical and easily accessible AI chatbot solutions can help companies:
- Collect customer feedback more effectively
- Learn from recurring customer issues
- Improve products and services based on real user experiences
- Support innovation and business development
- Handle increasing customer interactions without a corresponding increase in staff resources

What do companies say?
"Although our AI system records customer interactions, we still lack a structured way to classify recurring issues and identify patterns. The project’s focus on structure rather than just AI highlights an important challenge and provides valuable inspiration for future improvements."
– Björn Hedlund Länta, owner of Peace & Quiet Hotel, Jokkmokk
"What impressed me most was the focus on using AI to strengthen the organization’s ability to learn and develop, not just to automate customer service. Customer interactions can become a strategic source of knowledge that supports product development, innovation, and long-term competitiveness for small and medium-sized enterprises."
- Zongyu Cai, Quality Manager at Ozonair AB, Luleå
