Sustainability reporting for SMEs in the North
The EU's new sustainability reporting rules also affect small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Our project aims to equip SMEs in the North with the knowledge and tools to navigate these new requirements – and turn challenges into opportunities.
About the project
The research focuses on helping SMEs to implement sustainability reporting in line with the new EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). The project includes needs analysis and practical workshops tailored to the specific challenges and objectives of companies. By understanding and integrating sustainability principles, SMEs can strengthen their competitiveness and create long-term growth.
Benefits for SMEs in Norrland
The project will enable SMEs in Norrland to:
- Meet new sustainability requirements and thus fulfill customer and investor expectations.
- Improve transparency and credibility through accurate reporting.
- Strengthen their position in the supply chain, especially in the construction and industrial sectors.
- Create new business opportunities and innovation through sustainability focus.
SMEs in Norrland face specific challenges making this project particularly relevant:
- Limited resources: Small labour markets and difficulties in recruiting the right skills can hamper companies' ability to implement sustainability work.
- Large geographical distances: Transportation and logistics can be costly and less sustainable, creating additional challenges for companies' work on environmental adaptations.
- Traditional business structure: Many businesses are small, family-owned and concentrated in a few key sectors, such as construction and manufacturing. This makes them vulnerable to changes in demand and new regulations.
- Vulnerable economy: The region is dependent on a few large players and industries, which increases the risk of economic instability and bankruptcy, especially if companies do not adapt to sustainability requirements.
These challenges highlight the importance of equipping SMEs in Norrland with the right tools and knowledge to integrate sustainability into their operations. Through this project, companies can better navigate the changing regulatory environment, strengthen their competitiveness and contribute to a sustainable future.
Aims of the project
The aim of the project is to equip SMEs with knowledge, inspiration and concrete tools to manage sustainability reporting. We aim to increase their understanding of the strategic benefits of sustainability and support their long-term growth and contribute to sustainable development in Norrland.
