In the course, students work individually or in groups on projects that resemble real research and development assignments. They formulate problems, search for and review relevant literature, plan how the work will be carried out, operate within given time and resource constraints, and present their results clearly in reports and presentations. As a result, industry gains access to graduates who are accustomed to project-based work and professional communication.
Expected results
The course also helps students develop important skills for both research and professional life. They practice formulating problems, making independent decisions, handling uncertainty, and translating theory into practical solutions. For companies, the course can also serve as an opportunity to get to know students at an early stage and gain insight into their competence and working methods prior to future recruitment. The company will receive the project results and will have the opportunity to get to know and work with a potential future employee.
By the end of the course, the student should be able to independently plan and carry out a project. The student should also be able to evaluate the results and present the work in both a written and an oral report.
In summary, the course contributes to educating students who are well prepared for both research and industry and who can quickly become valuable contributors at an early stage of their careers.
How does it work
The company/client proposes one or more small problems (small project size). We offer the students all the proposed projects and the students choose among the proposed projects. We communicate with the designated contact persons and decide together on other details.
What is required from you as a company?
- A problem statement (in Swedish or English).
- Desired result
- A contact person. The contact person at the company needs to be familiar with the problem and genuinely interested in the assignment.
- Attend meetings when the need arises. The number of meetings varies, roughly speaking 3-4 meetings and preferably a visit to the workplace for the students.
