D2: Designstudio

 

Throughout the duration of the course, you will engage in various assignments and exercises designed to solidify the understanding of the theoretical concepts. You will learn how colors can influence perception and mood, delve into the principles of form to understand how different shapes can convey different messages, and explore the basics of semiotics to see how symbols and signs communicate in design. Practical components of the course include hands-on sketching to enhance visualization skills, model building to understand the physical dimensions and constraints of design, and rapid prototyping to learn how to quickly bring ideas to a tangible form for user testing and feedback.

 

A key aspect of the course is the individual design projects, which requires for you to apply the theories and skills you’ve learned to create comprehensive design solutions. These projects will go through stages of ideation, sketching, prototyping, testing, and final presentation, with an emphasis on aesthetics and semiotics to ensure the design functions well, as well as communicates the intended functionality, and is desirable for long-term sustainability. 

 

The course is structured to foster both critical and creative thinking skills in design, encouraging you to become a proficient designer and develop your unique creative design language and voice. By the end of the course, you should be able to create thoughtful and empathic design solutions that are well-constructed, aesthetically pleasing, and semiotically powerful.
