Application and admission

The application procedure may vary depending on whether the student is applying within a programme such as ERASMUS, NORDPLUS or ISEP or within a Bilateral exchange agreement between the home university and Luleå University of Technology. In either case our Online Application Form must be filled out and submitted.

The student exchange coordinator should note that students will only be accepted on condition of a prior contact with the International Office at Luleå University of Technology.

Application and Nomination

Nomination Deadlines

For Autumn semester: March 30
For Spring semester: September 30

All prospective exchange students must be nominated by their home university in order to submit an application.

Application Deadlines

Autumn semester and Full year: April 15
Spring semester: October 15

The Swedish academic year comprises two semesters and runs from the beginning of September to late December (not including Orientation Programme) and the beginning/middle of January to the beginning of June.

Note! The application deadlines refer to a complete application being submitted through our online form. We cannot see your application until you click submit.

No printed copy of the application needs to be submitted.

Application procedure

• Create a personal account in the Application Portal (link below)
• Fill out all sections of the application
• Fill out and upload all necessary enclosures
• Submit your online application
• It is LTU's requirement that the student has to take at least 30 ECTS worth of course work during each semester.

Before choosing courses for your stay at Luleå University of Technology you must read the instructions under Study information. Please note that for admittance you must fulfil the specific prerequisites for the courses that you are applying to. To be able to follow a course, a good command of the language in which the course is taught is essential. Please also note that uploaded documents, such as Transcript of Records, must be in English.

The applications will not be reviewed until after the last date to apply has passed.

You will be sent a Letter of Acceptance as an email attachment upon admission to Luleå University of Technology.

Obligatory enclosures

The following documents must be enclosed in order for us to process the application.

• Transcripts of records in English (signed and authorized by home institution).
• List of present courses not in transcript of records.
  (Information about courses that you presently are attending within the discipline for which you are applying to Luleå University of Technology (only applicable if you apply for courses with prerequisites))
• Copy of passport or other similar photo ID.
• Documents confirming special needs – if needed.
• Audio or video audition file (Only mandatory for music and dance studies).

Language Requirements

All exchange students are expected to have at least B2 (or corresponding) in English, to be able to keep up with their classes. LTU does not require exchange students to take a language test in order to prove this, however we do expect our partner universities to make sure that their nominated students fulfil this requirement.
