Application Process and application form for LKAB Scholarship
Students applying to the Bachelor Programme in Mineral Resources Engineering have the opportunity to apply for this scholarship. The scholarship is granted on the basis of academic excellence. Priority is given to applicants that have chosen the programme as their first choice.
Selection process
The scholarship is awarded primarily on the basis of academic excellence and the selection process is undertaken in parallel with the admission process. Only applicants who fulfil the admission requirements of the applied programme are eligible for a scholarship.
The application period for the scholarship for Mineral Resource Engineering is open between the 15th of October to 28th of February.
Special rules for the LKAB Scholarship
- If the student is granted a deferment of studies until the next academic year, the scholarship decision is reversed.
- Upon a change into another degree programme, the scholarship decision will be reviewed.
- Scholarship holders who have carried out exchanges studies at Luleå University of Technology and can be given credit for studies within their Master’s programme, will have their granted scholarship reduced for the remaining higher education credits required to fulfil the exam requirements.
- If the scholarship decision covers only a part of the tuition fee,
the student must pay the remaining part of the tuition fee no later than 15 June for the start of the autumn semester or no later than 15 December for the start of the spring semester, in accordance with Guidelines for handling tuition fees for degree programmes and courses at Luleå University of Technology - If a student is granted a leave from studies during the degree programme, the scholarship payments are postponed during the leave. The payments are resumed when the student returns to the degree programme. Scholarship holders on a leave from studies for more than one year will lose their scholarship.
- Applicants who are granted a scholarship but are denied a residence permit by the Swedish Migration Agency lose their scholarship offer.
- Scholarship holders changing their fee status to a non-fee paying student lose the reduction of the tuition fee in the scholarship.
Important Note
The scholarship is awarded one (1) semester at a time. Prior to each semester, the scholarship holder’s study performance is checked. The scholarship holder must have completed the course credits specified below in order to receive a scholarship the next semester:
- Prior to semester no. 2 = at least 7.5 credits.
- Prior to semester no. 3 = at least 37.5 credits.
- Prior to semester no. 4 = at least 67.5 credits.
- Prior to semester no. 5 = at least 97.5 credits.
- Prior to semester no. 6 = at least 127.5 credits.
If a scholarship holder has not fulfilled the required criteria for accomplished study results (see above) when the study performance is checked for the upcoming semester, the scholarship will not be awarded the scholarship for that semester. Failure to fulfill the required criteria for accomplished study results means that the scholarship holder will have to pay by them self in full for the living expenses/tuition fee for that semester.
If the scholarship holder, at a later stage, completes the stipulated number of credits specified above at the point when the study performance is checked prior to a semester, the scholarship holder can receive the scholarship for the semester that the applicable criteria are met. However, a missed scholarship period will not be awarded afterwards.
Required documents
The application should provide the University with a Curriculum Vitae, a motivation letter and a letter of recommendation. The motivation letter and the letter of recommendation must contain no more than 600 words each. The following questions should be answered in the motivation letter:
- Why do you want to study this programme?
- What other qualities do you have besides academic excellence?
- What are your career aspirations?
In order to have a successful application, make sure to be eligible, complete all these steps of the process, and that you have the documentation required to finalise your application in time.
In the application, make sure to:
- Have your 8-digit application number at hand (from your account/application on universityadmissions.se)
- Use the same e-mail address as the one you registered at your account on universityadmissions.se
Notification and mandatory confirmation of awarded scholarship
The scholarship recipient will receive the offer in April. Luleå University of Technology (LTU) cannot give any preliminary notifications regarding whether a scholarship applicant will be offered the scholarship or not. However, all applicants for scholarships administrated by LTU will be notified when the selection is completed.
If you receive an offer, you have to confirm that you accept the scholarship offer by the deadline specified in the notification.
Failure to confirm before the deadline will result in the scholarship offer to be rescinded.
Please note, if you want to change or add, something to your application, you must submit a new application. In such a case, your previous application will be cancelled.
