This course focuses on two pillars that exist in all businesses: data and decisions. The landscape of organizational data and decisions based on data is witnessing a transformation. We all have access to big data from both in- and outside our organization. Decisions used to be made by exclusively by humans, but nowadays algorithms and bots can make data-driven decisions. This course addresses this development and the complexity unfolding.

Course content
The Business Intelligence course addresses organizational data and how it should be structured and analysed to support data-driven decisions. Participants will learn about data, data analysis, decisions and data-driven decisions based on evidence from data.
The course is divided into five modules. While the course is online, there are three meetings with the course instructor of two hours each. The three meetings come at the beginning, middle and end of the course.

Structure of the course
The course is structured as follows: self-study (23 hours) and online meetings (4 hours), on-site practice (3 hours approx. - must be booked).
In order to pass the course
You must pass the available quizzes as a prerequisite for submitting the project. The project is the formal assessment.
Teacher
Ahmed Elragal is Professor of Information Systems at Luleå University of Technology (LTU). He is the acting head of the university's research subject Information Systems. Prof. Elragal is the computer science master program coordinator. He also works as an adjunct professor at Kristiania University College (KUC), Oslo. Prof. Elragal has a PhD in Decision Support Systems from Plymouth University, UK. His research interests are: decision theory, data analytics, business intelligence, data science, enterprise systems and data architecture for AI. He has helped several companies to develop their analytics skills.
