About the course
The course gives you a good theoretical and practical knowledge of laser cutting, but also an overview of other laser processing methods. According to many experts, laser cutting is an indispensable fast and flexible method and is suitable for many materials and different production environments. The European Welding Federation, EWF, has developed a stand-alone special program in laser cutting that Luleå University of Technology now offers as a course in Swedish. An international diploma, the EWF diploma, guarantees education of the highest quality.
The course contains a theoretical part and a practical part.
Theoretical part:
Industrial lasers and their function, Beam propagation and laser optics, Laser cutting process, Systems, Materials and their machinability, Characteristics of cut surfaces, Design for laser cutting, Quality assurance and laser safety (Total 18 hours).
Practical part:
Process parameters and their influence on fiber and Nd:YAG laser cutting in different materials (Total 4 hours and 4 hours of homework).
Approach
The course is conducted on two occasions of 2-3 days during a two-month period. Theory and practical elements are combined and interact to achieve the best learning. The examination includes three hours of written knowledge control and an approved laboratory report. Successful students receive the EWF diploma (ELC) as a course certificate.
Teachers
The course coordinator is Jan Frostevarg, assistant professor in production development at Luleå University of Technology. Jan has extensive experience in laser welding and has published several scientific articles in the field. Other teachers in the course include Alexander Kaplan, Jörg Volpp and Tore Silver, who also have extensive experience in laser welding.
