Mentor training for AIL
As a new colleague, being able to interact and develop together with a professional and committed mentor is of great importance for a good introduction and in the long run a sustainable teaching life. The mentor's role is to support the new recruit, share challenges and promote the development of the new colleague's knowledge. The goal of this training is to offer mentors, based on their own experiences and conditions, a research-based mentor training that develops competence to support the new teacher in a professional and initiated way.

Target group:
You are a licensed, experienced and professionally skilled teacher who has the task of mentoring someone new to the teaching profession.
Scope:
The course is given at 50% during the academic year 23/24. 7.5 credits.
Location:
The course is mainly given via distance learning technology, which is supplemented by two physical full-day meetings in Stockholm.
Registration:
Luleå University of Technology reserves the right to cancel the course if there are too few participants.
You will learn
The course gives you the chance to develop a professional approach to the role of mentor and supervision, including knowledge of professional ethics, adult education and conversation methodology, as well as teacher-driven systematic and methodical knowledge development.
Prerequisites
To participate in the course, you must be employed as a teacher and during the course mentor someone who is new to the teaching profession. Participants must have a teaching license. Teacher's license with permission to teach in grades 7-9 and/or upper secondary school. When applying, the participant's head teacher must certify that the applicant is experienced (has taught for at least 6 years) and has been selected on the basis of his or her suitability for the role of mentor, i.e. that the teacher is deemed by the head teacher to be professionally competent.

Course structure
The course is mainly given via distance bridging technology, 8-10 meetings, 15-17. These are supplemented by a full-day meeting in Stockholm before the autumn semester starts, and a full-day meeting in Stockholm after the end of the spring semester for the implementation of examinations. Between the meetings, the participants work with current elements and self-study. The training is given in the form of lectures, literature seminars, practical exercises/workshops, self-study and examinations.
National Agency for Education
The mentor training is part of the preparation for the upcoming professional program.
Application process
Application and admission to the program takes place via the National Agency for Education's system due to the certificates that must be made in connection with the application. The Swedish National Agency's registration link is forwarded from LTU to the relevant principal or the specific school. The application round starts on May 10, 2023 and runs until June 10, 2023. Possibly open for late application depending on application pressure.
