Open for the climate: Design of Integrated Circuits
Do you want to learn how to design integrated circuits? Then this is the course for you. In this online course, you will design your own operational amplifier from scratch, utilizing tiny transistors on a mm²-sized chip.
Overview
Entry requirements: Experience in designing discrete analog electronic circuits. Understanding of the basic amplifier configurations and their operation: common source, common drain and common gate as well as differential amplifiers. Understanding of high- frequency models for MOSFETs and operational amplifiers.
Start date: Will be announced shortly
Duration: Will be announced shortly
Course format: Online lectures, online computer lab assignments, and online knowledge tests. A theoretical foundation is laid out for the students in online self-paced lectures. This foundation is anchored by online self-paced theoretical tests. Practical skills based on the theoretical foundation are trained through online self-paced computer lab assignments.
Examination: Continuous examining quizzes
Diploma: After completing the course, the participant will receive a certificate (note that the course does not give higher education credits)
Language: Swedish/English (please note that the video recordings in this course are in English but subtitled in Swedish)
Price: Will be announced shortly
Registration: Register via the link further down on this page
Who is the course for?
Electrical engineers with some years of experience in electronic design or newly graduated students who would like to learn the basics of integrated circuit design.
Course content
Integrated circuit design techniques, CMOS structure and CMOS devices. The end goal is for the student to design their own operational amplifier.
Course Aim
The aim of this course is to introduce the student to integrated circuit design.
The learning outcomes are:
- Understanding the process of CMOS fabrication and how said process affects manufactured devices
- Learning to use tools for integrated circuit designing, in particular
- Simulation (including Monte Carlo simulations)
- Layout
- Learning techniques for good analog integrated circuit layout and how the layout affect manufactured devices
- Learning to optimize integrated circuits for yield maximization
Contents
The following topics will be covered:
- CMOS structure
- Wells and metal layers
- Active and poly layers
- MOSFETs
- CMOS fabrication
- Integrated circuit layout techniques
- Integrated circuit devices and their properties
- Resistors
- Capacitors
- MOSFETs
- Diodes
- Integrated circuits
- Differential amplifiers
- Current mirrors
- Bias generators
- Integrated circuit design techniques
Examination
The examination is carried out by continuous online theoretical tests as well as continuous online computer lab assignments. In order to pass the course, the student must pass all theoretical tests and complete all computer lab assignments.
