Stormwater quality and impacts on receiving waters
Stormwater is a known cause of diffuse pollution from our cities to water bodies. But which pollutants are involved and what are their sources? The course gives a comprehensive picture of what affects the pollutant content of urban stormwater and snow, how the pollutants spread further into nature and how this can be modelled. The course is aimed at water authorities, municipalities, planners and consultants who need basic knowledge about stormwater quality and others with a general environmental interest.
Facts
Target group:
Professionals in the field of water and environment, e.g. municipal officials, consultants and engineers who need basic knowledge about stormwater quality.
Prerequisites:
Basic eligibility
Scope:
40 study hours
Location:
Fully digital
Language:
Swedish

4 200 SEK
Registration:
Registration is further down the page. Luleå University of Technology reserves the right to cancel the course if there are too few participants.
Course content
The course focuses on the occurrence of pollutants in urban stormwater and snow and their sources and further spread to recipients and what affects the spread. In addition, the course covers the most common models for assessing stormwater quality, including the possibilities and limitations of the models.
Course structure
The course is based on self-study such as preparatory tasks, study material and pre-recorded material for compulsory seminars.
Stormwater quality - sources and pollutants:
Self-study on pollution sources and pollutants, including assignment, and seminar with illustrative examples and joint discussions.
Contaminants in snow and snow management:
Self-study on the impact of winter conditions and snow management on the dispersion of contaminants and a seminar with illustrative examples and joint discussions.
Recipient impact:
Self-study and seminar with illustrative examples and joint discussions on how pollutants transported by stormwater are dispersed after discharge to the recipient.
Modelling of stormwater quality:
Self-study and seminar with computer lab where modelling with a modelling tool is tested and discussed.
The course is structured as follows
The course consists of three meetings/seminars of 2 hours each and preparatory self-studies (34 hours).
To pass the course
In order to pass the course, the following is required
- Preparatory assignment: pollutants in stormwater and their sources.
- Active participation during the seminars
- Final quiz
