Wood technology 3: Process and product
The course is a continuation of the course Tree construction and anatomy. It provides a comprehensive understanding of how the properties of the raw material affect the entire manufacturing process
and the quality of the final product. You will learn about the relationship between the characteristics of the log and the selection process, sorting of wood, and strategies to ensure high quality.
Facts and figures
Target group:
Professionals at sawmills and/or other wood processing industries who need knowledge of the properties of the raw material in their professional role.
Prerequisites:
Completed the course Wood Technology 1: Construction and Anatomy of the Tree.
Scope:
40 hours divided into about 4 weeks.
Location:
The course is given entirely at a distance
Price:

About the course
The course explains why the manufacturing process is shaped by the characteristics of the raw material. Describes strategies and process steps to ensure the quality and properties of the sawn product.
You will learn:
- The relationship between the characteristics of the individual log and the choice of posting and volume and value yield.
- Sorting rules, design and criteria. What they are based on and how it is carried out.
- The sawmill paradox, understanding how a change in the requirement specification for one product affects the outcome of other products.
- Traceability, what does it mean?
- Methods for impregnation, modification and further processing.
Structure
The course covers approximately 40 hours of work. The course content is largely based on self-study and is divided into 5 modules, each of which is based on recorded lectures, literature, simple home laboratories and exercises, there is an online meeting at the end of each module.
