Work environment technicians have broad knowledge of the work environment and its impact on humans, knowledge that includes both the physical, organizational and social environment. After completing the education, you will be able to analyse, develop and design safe and attractive jobs, workplaces and systems that are adapted to human needs and conditions.
The education is a commissioned education based on a joint initiative between LTU, Boliden and LKAB as part of a long-term collaboration with Luleå University of Technology on research and education for safe, attractive and health-promoting workplaces in the mining industry.
Courses
The program is divided into 10 courses that are read at half speed for two years:
- Work Environment Management, 4 credits.
- Physical load in working life, 8 credits.
- Risk and safety, 8 credits.
- Organizational and social work environment, 4 credits
- Equality and diversity, 4 credits.
- Physical work environment factors, 8 credits.
- Chemical work environment factors, 8 credits.
- Human-machine interaction, 4 credits.
- Work management, project management and communication, 4 credits.
- Independent work, 8 credits.
Start and scope
The program is conducted as half-time studies for two years. It starts on 4 September 2023 and ends on 17 June 2025. After completing the course, you will receive a certificate stating that the course corresponds to 60 credits.
Implementation
The teacher-led teaching will take place according to the "lunch-to-lunch" model and is normally scheduled for Tuesdays and Wednesdays with breaks for Christmas, Easter and summer vacation. In between, you will conduct your own studies or participate in projects/group work.
Most of the teaching is done remotely via Zoom. Some teaching can be transferred to the university in Luleå. The program includes a study visit to a major industry to exchange experiences on work environment work.
The pedagogical forms are adapted to operational learning, which means that theory is interspersed with practice through, among other things, experiences from the activities of participating organizations. This is done primarily through dialogue based on the participants' own experiences, but also through workplace visits and lectures by the participating organizations' own experts in the field. A training council is linked to the training, which continuously monitors and develops the training.
Examination
The different courses are graded as Pass (G) or Fail (U). Each course is examined by showing that you have achieved the learning objectives for each course. Examinations can consist partly of knowledge tests and partly of practical and written elements where you demonstrate your understanding and ability to apply the course content. The program ends with an independent work of 8 points that is examined through a written report.
Application and cost
In addition to the places reserved for LKAB and Boliden employees, a number of places are offered to other interested parties.
