Meet Wasim
From a different part of the world all the way to Luleå, Wasim arrived to pivot his career by studying in the Masters programme in International Business.
What made you choose the program?
“I used to work as a consultant for several international companies. I also taught at a college and conducted trainings for companies. At this point in my career, I felt I needed more exposure and understanding of the concepts and practices of international business and management. I looked at the curriculum for this program and saw that it aligned well with my interests in management control systems, business internationalisation, branding and marketing. I did not hesitate to apply.”
What do you think of the programme?
“We had four courses in the first semester, specialised in international business and marketing. I found all the courses very informative. I learned things both individually and as a group member. I am looking forward to the second semester.”
What attracted you to Luleå?
“What attracted me most was the content of the program. But also that I like meeting new people, understanding different cultures and exploring new places. I wanted to learn both in the classroom and outside the classroom. I thought that Luleå would be a good choice. I was right! And then I am a coffee person! I'm glad I chose Luleå.”
What was the best thing about being a student at Luleå University of Technology?
“The best thing was that I got a whole new perspective on international companies. We had students from all over the world in our program. The discussions in the classroom give me new insights. I learned not only about European companies and their way of doing business but also about African and Latin companies.”
“I think the university is very welcoming to international students. During the arrival week I got to meet students from many different programs than my own. The student clubs are very active and always ready to help new students. They organise tours and trips. The university admissions office is also very active. They make the transition easy for international students.”
What is the best thing about living in Luleå?
“Nature! And the snow.”
What do you do in your free time?
“I explore Luleå and its surroundings. I have been to Norrbottensteatern, Södra hamn, Gammelstad. I have already attended several basketball games and become a fan of the local team. I have also watched several concerts at Kulturens hus.”
