The Swedish Hydrogen Conference 2026

Luleå University of Technology and the Centre for Hydrogen Energy Systems Sweden (CH2ESS) are pleased to invite you to Sweden's Hydrogen Conference 2026.

Over two days, the conference will bring together leading companies, researchers, public authorities, investors and innovation organisations to discuss how Sweden can take the next step towards competitive, resilient and commercially viable hydrogen solutions and business opportunities.

The conference has two main objectives.

The first is to continue the annual Swedish Hydrogen Conference, which has been jointly organised since 2023 by CH2ESS at Luleå University of Technology, RISE, Energiforsk, Energiföretagen Sverige, Energigas Sverige and Hydrogen Sweden.

The second is to further develop the work carried out during 2025–2026 to establish Hydrogen SIC!, Sweden's national hydrogen excellence cluster. Hydrogen SIC! is a national initiative in which Luleå University of Technology, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Chalmers University of Technology, Umeå University, RISE, Swerim and Lindholmen Science Park, together with industry and public-sector organisations, are developing a shared strategy to position Sweden as a world leader in fossil-free hydrogen.

Program

Day 1 – Markets and Innovation

The first conference day focuses on the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of Sweden's hydrogen economy. Through keynote presentations, panel discussions and dialogue between academia, industry and public authorities, participants will explore how hydrogen can strengthen competitiveness, security of supply and the green transition.

Conference themes include:

• Industrial investments and experiences from leading Swedish companies
• Innovation and commercialisation of new technologies
• Investments and financing
• Energy systems and security of supply
• Safety, regulations and permitting
• Fuel cells, electrolysers and hydrogen production
• Hydrogen storage
• International collaboration through the IEA Hydrogen Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP)

A major highlight of the conference will be the presentation of the final results from the projects within the Nordic Hydrogen Valleys programme. Over the past three years, these projects have brought together researchers, industry and public-sector organisations to accelerate the development of hydrogen solutions across the Nordic region.

The projects address key barriers for hydrogen implementation. The first focuses on the future development of safety, permitting processes and public acceptance for large-scale hydrogen deployment. The second addresses energy supply, economics and energy storage. Together, the projects will present Nordic roadmaps outlining strategic recommendations for how these areas should evolve towards 2030 and 2040 to enable the large-scale deployment of hydrogen infrastructure across the Nordic countries.

The conference day concludes with a networking reception followed by the conference dinner.

Day 2 – Hydrogen SIC! – Building the Next Generation of Swedish Hydrogen Initiatives

The second conference day focuses on collaboration, strategic planning and future initiatives.

Through inspiring presentations, international perspectives and interactive workshops, participants will work together on topics including:

• Vision, impact and future activities
• Technical and societal challenges
• Strengthening Sweden's research, development and innovation capacity to increase international competitiveness in hydrogen
• National and international collaborations
• The next generation of hydrogen research and innovation projects

The workshops are designed to develop concrete collaborations between academia, industry, public authorities and funding organisations. Their outcomes will contribute directly to the continued development of Hydrogen SIC! and the establishment of a Swedish hydrogen excellence cluster.

Conference Registration

• Conference (1–2 December): Registration opens in August/September 2026 (places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis).
  
• Conference Dinner (1 December): Booked separately.

The conference fee includes participation in the conference as well as coffee breaks and lunch for one or both conference days. The conference dinner is booked separately.

Conference Language

The conference will be conducted in both Swedish and English.

Exhibition

A limited number of exhibition spaces will be available alongside the conference.
