Professor Tom Britton of Stockholm University became well known to the general public through his media appearances during the COVID-19 pandemic, in which he discussed statistical models of disease outbreaks.
In his talk, he will introduce some basic stochastic epidemic models and describe their properties. He will also briefly present two recent research problems: optimizing the timing and extent of lockdowns, and estimating how many lives were saved by COVID-19 vaccination in Sweden during 2021.
