Withdrawn support for open web-based courses within the green transition
In June 2022, Luleå University of Technology, together with eight other universities in Sweden, received a joint assignment from the government to develop open, web-based educations, so-called MOOCs, to support society's climate change. The investment resulted in 40 courses that have so far been read by just over 2,000 people.
In the Government's spring budget, the targeted efforts to improve skills for the climate transition are scrapped. Therefore, Luleå University of Technology and eight other universities have now written a debate article about this. In the debate article, the universities call on the government to rethink and be open to the climate and the green transition.
-Luleå University of Technology is an important factor that contributes to raising the competence of companies through the green investments that take place in northern Sweden. We also see that the demand for short, flexible, need-based education is increasing, says Pernilla Tingvall, project manager at Luleå University of Technology.
