The goal of gender equality work in Sweden is that women and men should have the same power and opportunities to shape both society and their own lives. Equality work deals with, among other things, influence, finances, health, education, work and men's violence against women. Actively working with gender equality is important for the university because it drives quality in both education and research. Equality ensures that men and women choose educations and careers they are passionate about without limiting their visions according to current gender patterns.
Since 2016, all state universities have been tasked with integrating a gender equality perspective in all their activities. They must give an account of the educational institution's development needs, goals and activities and describe how to integrate gender equality as part of the regular activities. The assignment has its starting point in the UN Declaration on Human Rights, Swedish and EU legal legislation and global and local goals for sustainability, gender equality, diversity and equal conditions.
