New multi-million euro partnership supports green transition degree project
The Swedish Association of Graduate Engineers and Luleå University of Technology have signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The purpose is to provide targeted scholarships to degree projects by engineering students that contribute to green transition. The collaboration runs for three years and covers a total of SEK 1.5 million.
- "I am pleased that through this collaboration we can provide additional financial support to degree projects by Luleå University of Technology's engineering students that contribute to solutions for the green transition. The innovative ability of new generations of engineers shows the way towards a more sustainable tomorrow and lays the foundation for future jobs, says Ulrika Lindstrand, President of the Swedish Society of Engineers and Chairman of the Environmental Fund.
Great opportunities for students
- "This is a fantastic opportunity for our civil engineering students to, via scholarships from the Swedish Engineers, already at the end of their education, get the chance to translate their knowledge into new significant ideas in the green transition," says Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, Vice-Chancellor at Luleå University of Technology.
For the collaboration, the Miljöfonden reserves an annual sum of SEK 500,000 starting in 2023. This means that a total of SEK 1,500,000 is allocated over three years. The payments will be in the form of tax-exempt scholarships of a maximum amount of SEK 50,000 per person.
Target 30 degree jobs
During the cooperation period, Luleå University of Technology will carry out its own screening process to select degree projects with high scientific quality. The projects should have great potential to contribute to social benefits by solving environmental problems. The goal is to be able to develop about 30 projects over three years that can help reduce environmental problems and strengthen the conditions for Sweden to achieve its climate goals.
The first call for proposals begins on October 1, 2023 and runs until November 10.
