Lockerroompodden is awarded this year's Gender Equality Prize
Winner of Norrbotten's Equality Award 2023 is Lockerroompodden, which in their platform, with great commitment, raises important social issues that affect sportspersons and sports performances. They take the conversation from the private sphere to the public space - all with equality in focus.
The prize is awarded by Luleå University of Technology, the County Administrative Board of Norrbotten, Norrbotten's municipalities and Region Norrbotten, which jointly work together for gender equality in Norrbotten. This year, the university had the great pleasure of arranging the Regional Gender Equality Day in Vetenskapens hus, where this year's gender equality prize was awarded. Julia Edbom and Ellen Nyström, founders of Lockerroompodden, were awarded the prize and the prize sum of SEK 100,000.
"It feels incredibly big and honorable. It creates even better conditions for continuing to make the podcast. We want to continue as long as we can, so this will take us a long way," says Julia Edbom.
Norrbotten's Gender Equality Prize is awarded annually to draw attention to successful equality work and the performer who is currently doing something exceptional to put equality issues at the top of the agenda. The jury group contents of Norrbotten's Governor Lotta Finstorp, Fredrik Hansson Municipal Councilor from Luleå kommun, Linda Jonsson Regional councilor from Region Norrbotten and Karl Andersson Professor at Luleå University of Technology.
“We in the jury group have based our assessment on the criteria effect and long-term, innovative thinking, intersectionality and societal challenges,” says Karl Andersson, Professor and Dean at Luleå University of Technology.
A voice to be reckoned with
Lockerroompodden is awarded the Gender Equality Prize 2023 with the justification "this year's award winner touches on current societal challenges with the message that change is possible. By focusing the spotlight on norms and structures in society, a starting point is taken in the present situation and with an optimistic view of the future, concrete examples of long-term solutions are highlighted. Through a genuine commitment and with great courage to raise difficult and taboo subjects, there is a big impact factor that can contribute to influence far beyond the inner circle. This year's award winners have lifted the conversation from the private sphere to the public space, and with historical retrospectives, international perspectives, research, and experiences create valuable companionship. Listeners get to take part in topics related to sports and social issues, where gender equality is the common thread that binds topics, guests, and dialogues together. By keeping their ear to the ground, this year's award winners have not only addressed a topic they themselves are interested in, but they have also inspired and influenced teammates, opponents, and audiences, far beyond the already basketball saved. This year's winner has become a voice to be reckoned with".
Also nominated were Beep Insights, Björn Svanberg (SWECO), Bodens Riksteaterförening, Mariana Vnuk (Normkollen), Marianne Westin, Tjejforum Hertsön and Women in Snow and Avalanche Safery (WSAS).
In addition to the prize ceremony, the Regional Gender Equality Day included several highly appreciated parts such as panel discussions with SSAB and a speech by the Swedish Armed Forces and Heden School in Boden.
