Hydrogen safety and permit processes
How do we support the ”high-current” but since centuries well-known gas hydrogen into our society, how to use hydrogen in a safe, expedient and trustful way ?
That is the main task for the Nordic projekt "Hydrogen stafety and improved permit procecesses", led by Cecilia Wallmark, Director of the Hydrogen Energy Systems Sweden, CH2ESS at Luleå University of Technology.
In september the project partners from Sweden, Norway and Finland met in Stockholm for the first time. The project team represent a very broad range of skills, including fire and explosion, regulations and political organization from a research perspective and applications from hydrogen pipelines, refuelling stations, energy and industry.
In three years the project will present a Nordic plan for the whole hydrogen value chain from safety and permits perspective spanning for 2030 and 2040. The Nordics will keep the lead in the field and gain the advantages many years ahead.
“We need faster and more predictable permitting processes to facilitate renewable hydrogen implementation in society, otherwise investigators might refrain from making investments in hydrogen", Marcus Runefors says, Researcher in Fire Satefy Engineering at Lund University.
“When it comes to renewable hydrogen, the Nordic countries have a golden opportinity, we must take. We are an important contributer to the hydrogen map of the world”, Cecilia Wallmark says, Operational Manager of CH2ESS.
The project takes place within the framework of Luleå University of Technology's hydrogen initiative, the Centre for Hydrogen Energy Systems Sweden - CH2ESS. The Swedish parties are financed by the Swedish Energy Agency.
Project partners: Energigas Sverige, Zelk, Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU) Gällivare näringsliv AB, Bodens utveckling AB, Lunds universitet, SSAB, Afry, Nordion Energy, Hydri Aalto University Career Design Lab and Gen-H oy.
