Many students came to Hydrogen evening with pizza, lab and H2 Green Steel
Luleå University of Technology has a close collaboration with industry and on Monday a hydrogen evening was organized together with H2 Green Steel. The evening was quickly fully booked and around 80 students came to explore post-graduation job opportunities linked to hydrogen, meet recruiters at H2 Green Steel and visit some of the university's laboratories.
In recent years, hydrogen has received a lot of attention as a key component in the transition to a more sustainable and carbon-neutral future. The large-scale investments in the hydrogen area, not least in northern Sweden, need a large number of civil engineers and other qualified personnel with relevant skills. Luleå University of Technology's hydrogen investment Center for Hydrogen Energy Systems Sweden - CH2ESS organized the hydrogen evening together with H2 Green Steel to arouse interest and spread knowledge about hydrogen in a pleasant way. The evening was an opportunity for students to experience the practical side of hydrogen research and interact with industry leaders.
One of the highlights of the evening was the guest visit from H2 Green Steel, a company that wants to revolutionize the steel industry by using green hydrogen as a central component in its production. Representatives from H2 Green Steel shared their insights on how hydrogen can transform traditional industrial processes and significantly reduce carbon emissions.
— We have gone from eighteen people to 180 since I started two years ago. Now we will have 1,500 people by 2025, so I will have to work hard during this period. We will need several different skills, not least civil engineers, said Karl Segergren, recruiter at H2 Green Steel.
Fredrika Norberg was one of the students who visited the hydrogen evening:
— Now it was a short run through on hydrogen, so I feel that I need to delve even more into the subject. But it is very valuable to meet H2 Green Steel and very fun to see the lab, she said.
After the presentations, pizza was offered and after the meal the students had the opportunity to participate in lab tours, where they got to see three ongoing hydrogen projects.
— It was a very pleasant evening. The students had the opportunity to meet industry representatives from H2 Green Steel as well as doctoral students and teachers at Luleå University of Technology. Half a dozen proposals for ex-jobs were presented and we showed three hydrogen-related labs. The students had a pleasant and educational evening with pizza, happy laughter and a deeper insight into the importance of hydrogen for society, said Erik Elfgren, head of education at the hydrogen project CH2ESS.
The evening ended with an open discussion panel where students could ask questions and engage in a lively dialogue about the future of hydrogen in Sweden and globally.
