Charlotte Wiberg to be Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Luleå University of Technology
Charlotte Wiberg, First Vice President at Chalmers University of Technology, is appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Collaboration at Luleå University of Technology. The position is completely new, established to strengthen these two fields so important to Luleå University of Technology. Charlotte Wiberg will take up her position on 1 December 2023.

With her great competence and long experience in leadership, she will bring valuable knowledge to our Vice-Chancellor Group, and I look forward to further strengthening our work on strategic partnerships and on fundraising, just to give two examples. The position is completely new for the University and with it, the Vice-Chancellor Group will further advance our research and collaboration, which are so important to us,” says Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, Vice-Chancellor of Luleå University of Technology.
Former First Vice President at Chalmers
Charlotte Wiberg joins Luleå University of Technology from Chalmers University of Technology, where she has been the First Vice President (Swe: prorektor) since 2021. The role as First Vice President has meant overall responsibility for post-graduate education and digitalisation issues. Charlotte Wiberg is professor of Interaction Design at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
“I am honoured to be the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Collaboration at Luleå University of Technology and it will be so exciting! It is very logical to me to combine these two areas, especially at Luleå University of Technology where they go so well together considering the University’s technological profile. I hope to contribute knowledge and experience from my leadership roles at Chalmers, and also from my research within the area of Interaction Design, which to a large extent has involved collaboration,” says Charlotte Wiberg.
The responsibilities of the new role
The new position as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Collaboration at Luleå University of Technology is part of the University’s central management and will include overall responsibility for selected university-wide research and collaboration initiatives. Important initiatives within this field of responsibility are, for example, the University’s strategic partnerships, its three areas of future importance and its Jubilee Fund. This includes, among other things, to improve collaboration between the University’s different subject areas and professional groups within research and collaboration. There will also be a focus on collaboration with the industry and public-sector bodies at various levels to advance the University’s research.
Charlotte Wiberg’s place of employment will be in Skellefteå. As a result, Luleå University of Technology will strengthen its presence in Skellefteå as regards the highest management level, even if she needs to spend most of her time at campus Luleå.
