Teknologkårens supervisor award 2023 to Ramin Karim
Ramin Karim, professor in operation and maintenance engineering, receives the 2023 award as best supervisor, which is awarded by the doctoral section in collaboration with Teknologkåren. Ramin works with research projects in artificial intelligence for industry.
"This award is a confirmation of a well-functioning research environment and helps us attract new talent to our team", says Ramin Karim, Professor in Operation and Maintenance Engineering at the university.
The research environments referred to are the AI Factory, a concept for gathering research projects in AI for industry, and the center formation CIAM, Center of Intelligent Asset Management. CIAM is a platform where industry and academia meet. This is where ideas for the intelligent and sustainable asset management of the future are born.
The jury has decided to award Professor Ramin Karim the Supervisor of the Year award of 2023. Ramin has been described as a supervisor who has a great deal of patience and deep subject knowledge within his research subject, which is Operation and Maintenance. He stimulates critical thinking and discussion amongst his PhD students by asking posing probing questions that allow them to embark on their own journeys of exploration and self-discovery, while still maintaining active guidance, personalized mentorship, and remaining dedicated to their research education.
The research environment created by Ramin is described by his PhD students as inclusive, collaborative, respectful, and characterized by co-creation of new solutions and business innovations. He also ensures that his students establish invaluable connections with industrial partners, opening doors to the expansion of their future professional networks. Through his supervision and guidance, several of Karim’s PhD students have successfully completed and defended their theses throughout the years. Taken together, Professor Karim is awarded the Supervisor of the Year award based on many qualities that make an exceptional supervisor and role model for others.
