This year's Academic Ceremony
During the Academic Ceremony at Luleå University of Technology, the new doctors and honorary doctors received their hats, professors were inaugurated and adjunct professors were awarded diplomas. It was celebrated on Saturday with a ceremony and subsequent banquet.
"It is my pleasure to welcome you to Luleå University of Technology’s Academic Ceremony 2023. A ceremony that highlights and pays tribute to individual achievement, as well as reminds us that we belong to the historical and international collective that academia represents", said Vice-Chancellor Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn in her opening speech.
Four new professors were inaugurated, three new adjunct professors received diplomas, 36 new doctors and four honorary doctors received their hats.
"Research helps us understand ourselves, the world around us and the universe of which we are part, while at the same time creating innovations that improve the world in the short and long term", said Vice-Chancellor Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn.
Prizes were also awarded during the ceremony 11 November at Kulturens hus. The recipient of Vattenfall's prize for the best doctoral thesis was Carola Strandberg, Lecturer in Industrial Marketing. Teknologkårens prize for praiseworthy supervisor contributions in the PhD programme was awarded to Professor Ramin Karim. Nordea's scientific prize for researchers at Luleå University of Technology was received by Professor Staffan Lundström. The Vice-chancellors Medal of Merit was recieved by Senior Professor Lennart Elfgren.
During the ceremony, the guests listened to RSPO Orchestra Academy and the Chamber Choir from School of Music at Luleå University of Technology
Festive banquet
Close to 350 people attended the subsequent banquet on the campus area. Among other things, there were speeches by Vice-Chancellor Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, the new doctor Albin Dahlin Almevall, the new professor Dina Shona Laila, honorary doctor Staffan Göthe and Deputy Governor Katarina Ljunggren. The dinner entertainment was provided by the former Idol winner Nadja Kasanesh together with Ulf Friberg from Theatre Academy at Luleå University of Technology and and the men's choir Snapsakademien.
The evening menu was the oficial province menu of Norrbotten, created by chef Simon Laiti from Hemmagastronomi. The first course consisted of smoked reindeer roast, reindeer pancake, reindeer flake,
sour cream, apples and lingonberries. For the main course, Arctic char, beurre blanc with Kalix vendace roe, almond potato puree and vegetables in season was served. For dessert the guests received almond cake, crème fraiche sorbet, Arctic Raspberry compote. The evening ended with music by STHLM JukeBox and a DJ.
